Are you passionate about nurturing young minds through the power of words? Leaders of Tomorrow Youth Center (LTYC) in Baltimore, MD is seeking a Creative Writing Instructor to join our team. At LTYC, we believe in shaping the future leaders of tomorrow through creativity and self-expression. As a Creative Writing Instructor, you will have the opportunity to inspire and guide young writers in exploring their imagination and honing their craft. With a salary range of $30-35, you can share your love for writing and empower the next generation of storytellers at LTYC.

Compensation:

$30 - $35 hourly

Responsibilities:

Curriculum Development:

  • Design and implement a comprehensive creative writing curriculum that includes poetry, short stories, plays, and other forms of creative writing.

Instruction:

  • Provide engaging and interactive instruction to youth of varying skill levels, ensuring each student is supported and challenged appropriately.

Writing Workshops:

  • Conduct writing workshops that encourage students to explore different writing styles and genres, and to share their work in a supportive environment.

Feedback and Editing:

  • Offer constructive feedback and guidance on students’ writing, helping them to refine their work and develop their unique voice.

Reading and Analysis:

  • Introduce students to a diverse range of literary works, facilitating discussions and analyses to enhance their understanding and appreciation of literature.

Project Development:

  • Guide students in creating and publishing literary projects, such as school magazines, anthologies, or individual portfolios.

Collaboration:

  • Work collaboratively with other instructors, staff, and community partners to support program goals and enhance the overall educational experience.

Mentorship:

  • Serve as a mentor and role model for students, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Community Engagement:

  • Participate in community outreach and events to promote LTYC's programs and build relationships with local organizations and stakeholders.

Professional Development:

  • Continuously seek opportunities for professional growth and development in the field of creative writing education.
Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Creative Writing, English, Education, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience teaching creative writing to youth, preferably in a school or community-based setting.

Skills:

  • Strong writing and editing skills. Proficiency in various writing genres and styles.

Communication:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to connect with and inspire students from diverse backgrounds.

Creativity:

  • Demonstrated creativity and innovation in teaching methods and writing projects.

Team Player:

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with colleagues.

Passion:

  • A genuine passion for writing and a commitment to empowering youth through creative expression.
